Let's get your estate plan started.

Your workbook, brought online. Answer at your pace, skip anything you are unsure about, and stop whenever you like. Everything saves as you go.

Section 1 of 9

Before You Start

How estate planning works here, how long it takes, and what it costs. No surprises.

How does this work?

1
We set up an appointment

You complete this workbook as best you can. One per family if your wills will mirror each other.

2
We meet, virtually or in person

We review your workbook together, walk you through the decisions, and give you our advice for your situation.

3
We draft, amend and finalize

We draft your documents, send them for your review after your deposit, and refine them with you until they are right.

4
We review and sign

We meet to sign the originals, and scan a copy to you by email.

How long will this take?

You take the lead. Fast means within a week, with jump-the-line fees. Regular takes about a month and qualifies for the Extra Value Deal. Later means whenever you are ready, after you have digested everything.

How much does this cost?

Legal fees per person. Disbursements and taxes are on top, and every will includes executors, trusts for minor beneficiaries, funeral wishes, and full trustee powers.

Basic Will only$750
Power of Attorney only$525
Representation Agreement for Health Care (Living Will) only$425
Extra Value Deal - all three documentsSave $200 per person when all three sign at the same meeting$1,500
Optional clauses spousal trusts, disabled beneficiary trusts, pet trusts, corporate trustees, restricted wills$300 to $875

Ask about the Young Family Discount at your first meeting. Typical disbursements: title searches about $15, corporate searches about $10, Wills Notice filing about $20 per person.

First, So We Can Reach You

Under a minute, and it is all we truly need.

How did you find Paperclip Law?
When is best to reach you?
How soon would you like your estate planning done?
Section 3 of 9

About You

One workbook covers a couple when your wills will mirror each other.

Is this plan for you alone, or for you and your spouse or partner?
What is your marital status?
Any cohabitation, pre-nuptial or marriage agreement?
Any continuing spousal or child support obligations, or family law proceedings?

Your spouse or partner

Stuck on one? Skip it and keep going.
Section 4 of 9

Your Family

Children, dependents, and the family tree the workbook sketches.

Do you have any biological or adopted children?
Do they have children of their own?
Are any children from a previous relationship, or in a shared custody arrangement?
Do any of these apply?

Your family tree

Just names, separated by commas. This sketches the tree from your workbook, and we finish it together at the meeting. Skip anyone who does not apply.

Section 5 of 9

What You Own and Owe

Rough strokes are fine. We will go through the detail together.

Are all of your assets located in BC?
Do you own any real estate?
How is it used?
Is there a mortgage?
Who is on title?
How are your bank accounts and investments mostly owned?
Which of these do you have? tick any
For those accounts, are any beneficiaries someone other than your spouse?
Do you own a business?
How is it registered?
Professionally regulated? medical, legal, accounting, architecture
Is there a shareholders' agreement?
Does the business have a succession plan?
Have you loaned money to anyone, or do you have debts beyond a mortgage?
Are you named in anyone else's documents? tick any
Section 6 of 9

Your Will

The boss of your Will, and who steps in for the people you love.

Picking your Executor is the most important decision in your Will. Usually your spouse or partner first, if you have one. Not sure yet is a perfectly fine answer, this is exactly what the first meeting is for.
Is your 1st choice a resident of Canada?
Any pets who need a guardian?
Section 7 of 9

Gifts and Wishes

All optional. Skip the whole page if nothing comes to mind.

Any memorial wishes?
Have you made any prepaid funeral arrangements?
Where will you store your signed originals?
Section 8 of 9

Meeting and Next Steps

The first meeting is where the real conversation happens.

Where would you like to meet?
Which days generally work?
About payment: nothing is due now. Your card details are taken at your first meeting, the same way the office always has, and nothing is charged until your drafts are ready.

Review What We Will Send

This goes to the estates team at Paperclip Law, already organised, with anything a lawyer should look closer at flagged.

We reply within one business day. We are closed on weekends, so a Friday evening note gets an answer on Monday.
